Meet Room Captain Thomas Cantrell
November 5, 2021

Thomas Cantrell is a Flora Farms room captain, responsible for the care of over 1,000 plants in his grow room. This month we chose to highlight him and asked him to share his story.

What made you want to get into the cannabis industry?

I was skeptical at first, until I tried it and found cannabis helped me with a lot of personal and medical issues. That’s when I knew that I wanted to know everything I could about this amazing plant and share it with the people close to me to see if it helped them like it helped me. I love teaching people about cannabis and seeing them benefit from it. It only made sense to pursue a career in this field, where I can grow as a person and literally grow for the world.

What is your favorite strain of all time and why?

It’s hard for me to pin down a favorite strain. I love so many but of the ones I like they all have a couple things in common. They’re all indica dominant, with strong citrus and skunky terpene profiles.

What’s been your favorite strain to grow at Flora Farms and why?

The Bubba Fett is my current favorite for this round because of how stout and strong the plant has grown, very large and dense colas on every branch. But my all-time favorite to grow was the Lemon Berry Candy OG. It LITERALLY smelled like a skunky lemon-head candy, and I loved working with it.

What’s the biggest misconception about your job? What’s the most rewarding part?

Biggest misconception about the job is that people don’t realize the level of thought that goes into caring for quality plants. You can grow a plant in an old boot with some dirt, water and sunlight; it is a very hardy plant hence the term “weed”. But to compare the results of a professional grow to that of a boot plant would be like comparing a rock to a precious gem. It takes a LOT of TLC to get quality medical product and a lot can go wrong during the 2 months it takes to get these plants to harvest.

The reward to me is the last 2-3 weeks up through harvest. Seeing your plants swell up and change color is a great feeling. This is also the time when their terpenes start to become really pungent and the whole room begins to reek in a wonderful way. I love it.

If you could hang with anyone, past or present, and unwind with cannabis and conversation, who would it be and where would you be?

I would love to smoke with Bob Lazar in the hangar of S7 at Area 51, where they supposedly house recovered alien space crafts, and talk to him about aliens and their technology.

We pump some serious music in the grow rooms. What’s on your playlist lately?

Techno. Lots and lots of techno. All kinds. The only requirement is that you gotta be able to groove to it.

Our thanks…

To Room Captain Thomas for taking the time to share with us and working so hard to grow safe, healthy, natural medical marijuana for the patients of Missouri.
