Microdosing Cannabis: What Is It and What You Should Know
June 8, 2020

Microdosing is a dosing technique that has gained in popularity in recent years. Practitioners of microdosing are taking small amounts of cannabis over the course of a day to reap the medical benefits of THC while minimizing the psychoactive effects that can sometimes interfere with their day-to-day routine.

What Are The Benefits?

Many patients who are using medical marijuana don’t want to be psychoactively impaired, but do want to enjoy the wellness benefits of THC such as relief from stress, anxiety, insomnia, menstrual cramps, and pain.

Small doses of THC can help relieve painful headaches, muscles soreness, and even nausea. THC can also help people suffering from mental discomfort feel less anxious or depressed, and some people even find that taking small doses of marijuana helps them be more creative, focused, and motivated.

Scientifically speaking, small doses of THC mimic natural compounds in our bodies from the endocannabinoid system – making microdosing an especially effective treatment option for medical marijuana users.

How Much Should You Take, Exactly?

So, we know that microdosing is incredibly effective. The million dollar question then becomes: how much should you take? The short answer is, it depends. There is tremendous variance in the amount of THC that will result in feeling high. This can be affected by individual differences in metabolism, personal genetics, and previous experience with cannabis, to name a few.

It might take some trial and error to learn what dosage and consumption methods work best for your personal microdosing experience. It can be a good idea to start with a dosage of 1- 2 mg two or three times a day, and adjust as needed.
