Making your own edibles at home offers you the chance to create something you cannot find anywhere else. Take a look at any edibles menu. It’s hard to find a savory option. But not if you make your own! That’s why today we’re making Infused Simple Butter Crackers. These are great for customizing with spices and making your own favorite flavors!

We recommend using Flora Farms Baker’s Batch XLs for all your at-home edible-making needs. Composed of small buds and shake, Baker’s Batch XLs provide a half ounce of the great Flora Farms flower you love at a fraction of the cost. Patients tell us they love that they can set aside some small buds for loading a bowl or rolling a joint and use the rest for baking.

Infused Simple Butter Crackers

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for rolling
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 cup infused cannabutter*
1/3 cup water, room temperature

Optional: Either extra kosher salt for seasoning, or seasoning of choice

*To help control dose size, use a ratio of infused and uninfused butter based on your tolerance. If you need to make cannabutter, check out our tutorial here! And be sure to check out the How To Determine Potency and How to Calculate mg of THC Per Serving sections.

Supplies

Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Food processor or hand mixer
Rolling pin
Pizza cutter or butter knife
Oven

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400 F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

Add flour, sugar, and salt to food processor and pulse to combine. If using a dry seasoning like garlic, add to the other dry ingredients now.

Add cannabutter and mix until fully incorporated. Add water a few tablespoons at a time and blend until a smooth dough forms. Push any mixture on the sides back down throughout.

Remove dough from food processor and divide into four equal parts.

Flour your work surface and roll a dough piece as thin as desired. The thinner the dough is rolled, the crispier the cracker.

Cut the rolled-out dough into pieces the same size to help provide a consistent dose. Place on prepared baking sheet. Add any desired seasoning toppings now, such as sprinkling sea salt over the crackers.

Bake crackers until crisp and golden, around 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the bake time and remove any that are browning faster to avoid burning. Allow to cool before consuming.

Tips & Tricks

A food processor handles mixing the dough best, but a hand mixer works too!

If you don’t have a rolling pin, try any cylindrical shape you can find around the kitchen, like a bottle of wine, a water bottle, an insulated mug, etc.

You can use cookie cutters to stamp out crackers and create fun shapes.

If your tolerance is low or you know you’ll want to eat all the crackers and need them to be low-dose, try making the cracker uninfused, then brushing with melted cannabutter after baking.

As always with edibles, we strongly recommend starting with a low dose, and then waiting 3-4 hours to feel the effects before consuming more. This is especially true with homemade edibles.

Store all edibles in secure containers, label clearly that it contains marijuana, and keep out of reach of children. Avoid accidental consumption by following those guidelines.

How to Determine Potency

When making edibles, it pays off to run some numbers to determine potency. It helps you create edibles at a potency that matches your tolerance and dosage needs. There’s also an edibles dosage calculator you can use instead.

To determine potency of a dose, start by multiplying grams used by 1000 to convert to milligrams. Then convert the THC percentage to a decimal by moving the decimal to the right two places. Multiply the milligrams of cannabis used by the THC decimal to determine the milligrams of THC.

3 grams of dried cannabis x 1000 = 3000mg of dried cannabis
20.5% THC = 0.205 THC
3000 x 0.205 = 615mg of THC

This is a generous estimate of how much THC will make it through the infusion process, but it’s better to overestimate than underestimate with edible potency. Next, you can use this information to calculate milligrams per serving.

How to Calculate mg of THC Per Serving

Divide the mg of THC determined previously by the number of servings to determine milligrams per dose.
600mg of THC / 16 servings = 37.5mg of THC per serving
Or divide the mg of THC by the amount of solvent used (butter, oil, sugar, etc). This is helpful for cutting infused ingredients with uninfused ingredients to achieve desired doses per serving.
600mg of THC / 1 cup = 600mg per cup
600mg of THC / 16 tablespoons = 37.5 mg per tbs
600mg of THC / 48 teaspoons = 12.5mg per tsp
600 mg of THC / 192 quarter tsp = 3.125mg per quarter tsp

And remember…

Always start with a low dose, like 5mg or under, when consuming edibles. Then wait 2-4 hours to feel the full effects before dosing again.
